This drawing is inspired by the date the Hong Kong government ordered the slaughter of all chickens as a preventative measure against bird flu, December 29, 1997.
The decision was made after some imported poultry were found to be infected with the H5N1 avian flu virus. This mass culling of birds was intended to prevent the spread of the disease and protect public health.
